Bird Town – Twain Harte

Central Sierra Audubon (CSAS) has an exciting new beautification project designed to educate, collaborate, and promote local birds. In collaboration with the Twain Harte Community Services District (THCSD) and the Twain Harte Chamber of Commerce (THCC), CSAS has designated the town of Twain Harte as an Audubon Bird Town. What does this mean?

CSAS worked with local artists to paint life-size, accurate birds on aluminum signs and then posted them all around the town. Each of the birds is identified. There is a large sign with an attached brochure box erected in the new Meadows Park explaining the project. The sign encourages people to “Find the Birds”, like a scavenger hunt. The brochure lists the birds that visit or live in Twain Harte and are included in the program. People are encouraged to find either the painted birds and/or the live birds, thereby encouraging them to become bird watchers or observers. The brochure has boxes next to the bird names for people to check off as they find the birds.

Twain Harte is a walking town, especially in the summer when birds and people visit. The new Meadows Park is a multi-million-dollar park that focuses on community stormwater enhancement. Local schools are finding that it is a great, educational field trip and CSAS hopes to reach their students by adding this fun “Find the Birds” activity to their curriculum.

The project was in place for the 2025 summer season and continues to be available to visitors.
